 Freeze like this [WILDKITTY]
« Thread Started on Oct 18, 2009, 11:08pm »

Characters Appearing: Wildcat and Fire
Time of Day: idk it's Antarctica!
Location(s): Antarctica!
NPCs used: Villain and Henchmen
Plot Summary: Someone's trying to make the ice caps melt faster. Or at least are trying to. But Fire and Wildcat come to save the day! If Fire wasn't so cold she couldn't light up. This seems to happen a lot.

She noted that she hated the cold. This must've been some sick twisted joke. Someone somewhere was laughing their asses off at her because she looked like she belonged in the Bahamas and here she was in An-freaking-rtica! Yeah she was preeeetty pissed right about now. And not only that, she hadn't talked to Wildcat all of, once. Which was also awesome, but heroes never really talked to one another - well sometimes. Well she was pretty cold and her brain wasn't working so her thoughts were just going to shut up right now.

She moved closed to Wildcat, muttering something as she rubbed the flame retardant clothing on her arms. Which happened to lack wind resistance - oh and a strange thing COLD. It was meant to keep heat from burning her not head on her! She slid next to Wildcat and hunched beside him, "I'm freaking cold." she muttered, watching her breath escape her lips. She was a bit peeved, but the faster they got the job done, "And there's just ice, I don't see a damn laser or any melting majigs..."

“Told ya to bring a better parka.” Ted told her, letting her draw close so they could share some lateral body warmth. His parka was extra thick, and the same color as his costume beneath. Combined with the extra layering in his costume, he was more or less warm. Ted used to go much lighter on cold weather gear, not willing to sacrifice speed for comfort. Magic or not, though, he was older now, and creature comforts were just a lot more tempting than they once were. Not to mention, most villains were wimps with heating. After they broke into the base, he’d probably be shedding clothing rather than wishing to acquire more.

“Maybe thataway?” Ted asked, pointing to a distant ridge where steam rose from the landscape in large billows. He shrugged, not wanting to appear too much like a brainy detective sort. That type of thing wasn’t normally his forte. It was still a long walk, regardless. Terrific really needed to check that teleporting equipment of his. Arriving peachy for a fight after a five or six mile trek through snow up to your knees wasn’t easy. “Ain’t you the League’s resident pyro, anyway? How do ya even get cold?”

”I’m made of fire, I generally didn’t think that a parka would be necessary.” she muttered angrily, even though he was kind enough not to freak out and push her away. She was, a model, and she was pretty looking – so she liked to think – and he was quite a bit older than her. She wouldn’t blame him if he had a panic attack and shoved her away, but the fact that he didn’t made her life him all the better. He had been the smarter party and was nice and warm. She just wanted to cling to his torso and absorb the body heat, but that would definitely be weird. Why did guys always generate more heat? Not fair at all, and she was freaking FIRE.

She looked over the horizon, containing chattering teeth before throwing her hands up, ”That would be a logical start.” and they were walking, in the snow…Awesome. She rubbed her arms, light up…Light up! Flame on! Something! She growled at herself before moving forward with a bit of a stop and attitude, ”Yeah I’m the hottest thing around but I’m so cold I couldn’t light a candle.” she muttered.

“Good thing we got this lil’ hike to warm us up.” Ted said, unable to throw a little bit of sarcasm into the situation. Fire’s close proximity didn’t really make walking any more difficult, because it was already freaking difficult. The depth of the snow made each step something of a miniature annoyance. She was a stick thin girl with no meat on her, so Ted was actually surprised she wasn’t staying even closer to him. He was tempted to offer, but that was the kind of choice she had to make herself. What he could do was give her something to make it a little easier. “Here,” Ted told her, placing two small objects in her hand. “Hand warmers. It’ll help some. That is how I managed to keep throwing punches after weeks in a trench durin’ that damn German winter.” He said, referencing WWII. The hand warmers there were not half as nice as the ones you could pick up in a convenience store these days, though.

“Ya ain’t tellin’ me anythin’ I don’t already know.” Ted said, grinning as Fire referenced herself as the hottest thing around. Considering the only things around were her, him, and snow, there was little refuting that. Not to mention that, even among the Leaguers, the Brazilian was one of the most attractive crime fighters around. And since there was hardly a plain looking woman among the JLA, that was saying something. “You’ll feel better once ya start turnin' the goons inta little bonfires.” He said with an air of sage wisdom.

Little hike? Yeah that had better have been sarcasm or she may have just knocked him into the snow. She rubbed her arms, watching her breath leave her mouth in large clouds of white mist. Frowning at the sight of it and turning to look up at him. They were going to have a tough time getting through this ‘little hike’ now if she could flame up, she’d melt the pathway and take care of this. She looked curiously at the hand warmers he put in her hands. Gratefully smiling, ”Thanks.” she said, and as thanks didn’t comment about how old he was. She moved closer, walking practically shoulder to shoulder with him, matching his strides and all.

She smirked a little against her chattering teeth, shaking her head, ”You flatter me Ted.” she was just being a bit cocky, and most people often told her to just hush up, or rolled her eyes at the young Brazilian. Not that it ever stopped Fire from making the hot puns. She snorted frowning a little, ”Turn them into bonfires, how cute.” she nudged him playfully. ”If I could just, god damn it.” she snapped her fingers trying to get some heat into her finger tips. But she started out too cold. Her normally high body temperature was playing against her core flames…

“Ah, don’t be too concerned about it.” Ted said, waving away her concerns with an errant wave of his hand. “I hear yer quite the scrapper. We’ll get through.” He’d heard quite a bit about this particular Brazilian over the years, in fact. It seemed every guy he associated with felt the compulsion to bring her up every once in a while, even if just in passing. Never far from the mind, Ted supposed. If he recalled correctly, she had been an agent (or maybe it was a spy?) for a long time, and had the skills to match. Granted, not many spies got to sent to Antarctica with their only mission statement being described as ‘beat up bad guys,’ but at least she wasn’t operating off of no experience at all.

“An’ if worst comes, we’ll just have to find a way to warm ya up.” He teased, mainly in jest. Despite Ted’s reputation for playing the field even at his advancing age, he was starting to get to the point where he was old enough to be many of the Leaguer’s great-great grandfathers. A thought like that was just off putting. He steered them back on course, as Fire had started drifting in the wrong direction a little bit. A few inches now seemed insignificant, but over the course of miles it could turn into huge deviations. He’d known hikers that missed civilization by miles after making that mistake.

“Did ya hear somethin’?” Ted asked suddenly, cocking his head to the side. Something, a noise so faint it only just tinged on his hearing, raised the fighter’s hackles.

She smiled softly, when was it that people ever actually complimented her anymore? Sure he was ancient, and she was young, and that was wrong. But there was nothing wrong with her holding some sort of respectful affection for the old man. She snorted, ”You haven’t seen me in the Amazon…” she muttered quietly, bugs. Bugs made her jump sky scrapers. She had been many things though, and they never really put her down. She was quite the set of skills. But a sweetheart to those who decided to put themselves in her company…well…sometimes.

”I’m not objecting to that.” she shivered. It wasn’t meant to sound sexual, but she smirked, nudging him lightly with her elbow. She noted that he was nudging her in the proper direction a little. She was too cold to care. She just remained close to him, she wasn’t one to worry about personal space, she was just freaking cold. She’d been through worse. But she looked over the horizon, that seemed so far away. She didn’t really want to walk that far, couldn’t they do something productive, like come to them.

She spoke too soon, ”Yeah I do-“ she spoke a little too soon, because immediately after she spoke the ground beneath her feet gave way, the ice collapsing into a hollow tunnel and the snow falling in on top of her. Shivering she dug her way out. ”Totally not cool…but looks like they found us.” she noted to the steam machine blazing not too quickly in the direction they had just came. ”But I’m still cold and not heating up much yet. I can give a good swift kick or two, but there’ll be no burning till I get warm…” she frowned.

“Hold on a sec.” Ted said, as the sound became even more audible. His hearing paid off, the sounds were of snow mobiles. If he wasn’t mistaken they were moving in flanking directions from less than a mile out. Which was, unfortunately, a problem. “We gotta get to cover. Hang on.” To put it nicely, Ted assisted Fire as he ran up the hill. Sophistry aside, he basically threw her over a shoulder as he scrambled uphill. Like this, with no cover, they were sitting ducks for miles. Even with his stamina, and the barely consequential weight of the Brazilian, he couldn’t keep this up for long. Thankfully, on the other side of this hill was rugged terrain. Exactly what they wanted.

“Goin’ down.” Wildcat said, before basically skidding down the hill. He was sure not to go fast enough that he lost his balance. A tumble here could be exceedingly unfortunate. A snow bank to their left exploded under gunfire. Ted, leading Fire still, ran deeper still into the territory ahead. Within moments they had enough cover to stop a moment. The sounds of the snow mobiles, though, only grew louder. “Well this ain’t the best odds I ever went up against. But we can take ‘em.”

“Lady, we have got ta get your fire started.” Ted grumbled as their pursuers encircled them.

Fire brought her mouth to a close as she leaned toward Ted as he said to hold on. Like some of the sound would bounce off of him and amplify enough for her to hear it. Her eyes closed as she tried to enhance the other senses. Hear something or anything while her sight was blocked off. But she could hear the dull roar of the motor from the distance. They were in trouble. ”Hang- Yipe!” She grabbed onto his shoulder as she was tossed over the shoulder so he could sprint up the hill. For the most part she was not okay with this. Not because he was a guy or anything like that, but more because he didn’t ask her if she wanted help. She could do things herself, why was it all of a sudden people found themselves doing things for her. First that hot head and now Ted? What was the world coming too.

She didn’t like this very much, this whole running thing. She looked behind her to see if she could catch a glimpse of her attackers. She nearly stumbled into him when they managed to get cover. Her eyes flickering around her as she watched the villains begin to circle around them. She cringed, he was right she needed to get her fire started. She clapped her hands like it was some lamp, but her skin was ice cold to the touch. There was a reason she lived in Brazil and was the Brazilian babe. She looked from side to side, ”Okay this is going to be a tad awkward, and I’m probably cold as a popsicle. But you’re going to have to deal if you want to live.”

She unzipped the parka and slipped her arms around his waist. God sweet Jesus he was warm. She was probably not very fun for him to be touching but good GOD he was warm. She felt the circulation flow back to her fingers and her eyes watched the particular group begin to surround them. She felt the heat in her finger tips begin to spread to her arms as she clung to Ted for a few more seconds, She controlled the green flames that slowly ate up her arms, keeping them from burning Ted and his coat. The heat from her flames warmed her core and she let go of Ted, her arms soon spreading to the rest of her body. The ice melting into a puddle around her, she was hot and she was gonna stay that way. ”Much better.”

“Hey, ya ain’t the coldest chick I ever cozied up with.” Ted said, as Fire slipped her arms underneath his parka to get warm. It was true, she was chilly, but Wildcat wasn’t a cream puff. He could take this and a lot more, if it came down to it. He spread the parka, wrapping it a little bit more around her body. It was mainly a tight fit, as was necessary for these cold temperatures, but the material had enough give for him to do that at least. As green flames started to lick her body, Ted still didn’t move. She wasn’t warm enough to make them go any farther. Finally, when her own fire started to work to her advantage, warming the other parts of her body, he withdrew, patting down those few flames remaining on his clothes. He’d got a few scorch marks, but nothing penetrating. Wildcat knew how to layer.

“Works fer me. I didn’t even have to do nothin’ but stand here and be your personal kindling.” Ted said, arms crossed. After a moment, as there enemies approached, he zipped his parka back up. From underneath the hood, he drew down a pair of goggles that covered his eyes. Fight in the snow was a nasty, wet, slushy business. Getting a face full of snow could be just as hindering as being hit with a handful of dirt. He took a step back from Fire, all but invisible within the shadows of the terrain. Picking the battle was half the battle, and as skilled as he was at fighting, Ted hadn’t lived this long by recklessly charging into battle. It might seem that way to the uninformed, but he always weighed his options. “Just whistle if ya need me. I’ll be doin’ a bit of counter-recon. Which is recon with more punchin.’”

“Stay frosty out there, Fire.” Ted said, grinning, as he slipped off to the side towards the enemy.

”I’ll take that as a compliment.” she smirked, nuzzling against Ted for the time being. It was less awkward when she looked at Ted as more of her, like, grandfather. Which he was nearly old enough to be her father or grandfather. Which made everything perfectly peachy keen. Besides he was kinda the most adorable thing on the planet with his graying hair and his cute accent. But the trick had worked and the flames were slowly starting to feed her body with heat. Like a chemical reaction exploding into flames, she wasn’t cold anymore, which was always a plus. But she clapped her hands together and sparks flickered from them. Now she was game, now nothing could touch her.

”Should’ve thought of this sooner.” she stood beside him, or hovered, lifting off the ground only a few inches. She glanced around at the approaching snowmobiles. Smirking a little at their snow required machines, ”Hmhm, got it Kitty-cat.” she chuckled, the flames around her hands burned brighter and wilder. She was ready for them any time. But she was growing impatient, but she had to wait for them to come to her, she tilted her head to glance over her shoulder.

”Haha.” she laughed sarcastically at the grinning Wildcat. She moved in the opposite direction, snow turning to water in an instant. She threw a hand out , melting the snow infront of the mobiles, causing them to trip up and flip their drivers off the vehicles, ”Black ice.” she smirked narrowing her eyes at the surrounding men now angry and no longer on their snowmobiles, ”Who’s first boys.” she grinned.

Wildcat actually found himself a little wanting as he moved away from the Brazilian hottie and into the cold. Charming as she was, Ted reminded himself to reign it in. He wasn’t here to sightsee, and there were other things to take care of at the moment. He slipped parallel to Fire’s attack in the trees, watching as she toppled a bunch of snow mobiles. Others, farther away, tried to shift around the dry patches. Jumping from a precipe, Ted landed on top of the snowmobile with catlike grace. He siezed the controls, using them as a springboard to kick backwards. The abrupt blow knocked the driver into his companion and sent both tumbling off the back. Allowing drag to pull him back, Wildcat fell easily into the seat of the snowmobile, before yanking the yoke to the left. It charged to the side, tumbling into another snowmobile. As they both went down, Wildcat jumped clear, falling into a tumble that he turned into a sprint. “Girl can fly. I could use me some transport.” Ted mused aloud. Next snowmobile he would have to keep.

Some of the men who knew what they were doing set up a little encampment on the other side of the hill. Good cover from fire based attacks while an excellent position for ranged weaponry. The high ground Fire had was good, but he didn’t want to see the Leaguer pegged by a mortar. With that in mind, Ted made a beeline for them before they finished assembling the larger than normal weapon. They noticed him about twenty paces out, and by ten paces most managed to bring their weapons to bear. By the time they aimed and pulled the trigger, it was more like five paces. And as anyone who ever went up against Wildcat before knew, five paces was well inside his range. With a flying kick he knocked a man back, before simultaneously fielding blows from the other two. The first millasecond an attackers blows began slow as his stamina flagged, Ted took him down. The other seemed more like a man of Ted’s caliber, watching his blows and not taking any risks. Since he wouldn’t, Wildcat did, throwing himself forward. He kept the man’s arms occupied, taking a few blows all the while, before driving his forehead into the man’s face. And another one bit the dust. Underneath the covering of a tarp, their snowmobile sat. “Now we’re talkin.’”

“Hey girl, ya got those pretty eyes of yours on the prize?” Wildcat yelled out, riding the snowmobile underneath Fire’s position. He was referring to the steam they’d noticed earlier, now more of a mile or two out. He didn’t fight the men Fire had knocked from their snowmobiles so much as run them down. Three went flying as Ted leapt the gap of permafrost Fire had melted, while his outstretched arms clothesline two on either side of him. Without missing a beat, he drove onward. “What kinda mess are we goin’ into?” He asked, hopefully she could see something of troop movement from up there, which would be invaluable. The field momentarily cleared, Ted kept his snowmobile aimed towards the steam. He knew Fire could keep up easily.

She was always fun to watch, but she kept her eyes on the people that she was fighting, listening in, in case Wildcat called for a hand. This, in her mind, probably wasn’t going to happen any time soon seeing as the man could very well take care of himself. She on the other hand would need to focus on what she was dealing with. There were more of them then she had planned on fighting, but when was it any fun when they were actually even? JLA members always seemed to be out numbered. Numbers were the only thing that seemed to help villains in the end. Most weren’t strong enough to take on a team, but they could get in a few hits. When Wildcat left her sight she focused her energy on the recovering men that she’d removed from the stow mobile, her feet touching the cold ice, releasing steam.

She put her hands up, ready to go. The men came toward her in swarms of three, because if they all attacked she might have just destroyed the whole ice cavity. But she swung a kick to the face of one of them, and a punch to the other’s face, dropping down to swing he legs under the attacker and knock him into the snow. Her eyes flickered to see Wildcat take on a base full of gunmen who were getting ready to take her down. Instead she ducked down away from the guns and took a man out with her. Wildcat had that handled, she just had to be careful. Upon her fighting the last two off she fought this one, harder than the first, easier that the second one. She was starting lose all that bustling energy she had a few seconds ago.

Eye on the prize? She watched Ted take out the rest of her contenders and she remembered, they weren’t here to play, but here to fight, ”Right.” she replied zooming after him, ”I see machinery…like a start of a train Ted.” she frowned, it was pretty big.

“Smooth ride. I’ma have ta get me one of these!” Wildcat yelled as he crested a hill. It would not be a smooth ride to a sane man. Every time he went up a hill at top speed, only his strength kept the snowmobile from slipping away. Each landing, too, would probably leave him black and blue in the morning. Sprays of snow left a major trail in Wildcat’s wake as he shot towards their target. It wasn’t like the now stranded and unconscious soldiers would need the trail, Ted assumed they knew where their own secret headquarters was placed. He made a mental note to bill the JSA for one.

“A train? This is the Arctic! Who comes ya the arctic ta build a train and hires thugs ta protect it?” Ted shouted back to her. He could barely hear Fire at all over the roar of his snowmobile. He twisted the yoke, doing another course correction. These major leaps tended to take him off target, no matter how fun they might be. He found himself traveling higher up a strip of elevation, actually drawing even with Fire for a time. He still wasn’t quite high enough to see over that lip as she could, though so he jumped up onto the back of the snowmobile. Balancing, his one foot propped up on the yoke to keep it steady; he managed just enough elevation to see clearly. It did look very much like a train. “What the heck are they up ta?”

He noticed the villain location was ill chosen. The peaks all around meant the area absolutely had to be avalanche prone. It might provide safety from the lax detection of the Antarctic, but they’d be buried up to their necks if they weren’t careful. He grinned wolfishly, good thing the ol’ Justice League was oh so careful. "Let's go invite ourselves ta the party."

She shook her head watching Wildcat jump around like some kid with a new toy. He was so goofy and she laughed at him. For an old man, he was alright. Still acted like he was at least twenty, but that’s because he was in shape, an a good thing too. No need for him to start aching on her in the middle of no where. She sped up to keep up with the speedy kitty and kept her eyes focused on the train machine that was in the distance. She bit her lip, this wasn’t good…not good at all. She inhaled, what were they getting themselves into.

”Maybe it just looks like a train.” she hollered down to him, ”Maybe they’re trying to cover up what they’re actually doing.” she called back to him, her eyes falling back on the train to see if she could make anything else out. She avoided his high jumps, nearly reaching heights where she was flying, and she made she he landed alright without hurting himself. But she shrugged it response, she had no idea what to make of this. A train was a nice disguise but what were they really doing?

”You know me.” she smiled speeding ahead, ”I always like a good party.”
